This is the Castelli of commute jackets, made to deliver maximum function on the bike and then look great when you get to work. We wanted a jacket that provides maximum visibility during those night commutes but doesn't look ridiculous with all kinds of silver reflective bands and strips when you get to the office. We applied a nearly unnoticeable reflective print on the entire surface of the jacket. You don't really see it when you're riding in the daytime or wearing the jacket off the bike, but at night the jacket reflects a distinctive pattern to get you noticed. We didn't stop at the reflectivity. The 20,000 mm water column means no water is coming through, ever. And the 20,000 MVTR breathability means that a good amount of moisture will escape. But it's the ventilation details that make this jacket stand out: there's a gaiter at the waist that you can close to seal out the wind or leave open to let some air come in from the bottom to keep you cooler. The Entrata Thermal Glove focuses on the essential elements of a winter cycling glove. We made the outer layer both windproof for warmth and stretchy for comfort. Then we added a layer of PrimaLoft insulation and an inner layer of lightly brushed fleece. This construction makes the glove insanely soft inside. Innovative evolution The Free Aero RC Bibshort is our top race short, which also means that it's insanely comfortable even if you never pin on a number. It's fair to say that we've been working on this short for the past 15 years. That's how long it's been since the original free aero race bibshort was first introduced, initially as our top-of-the-line race short. Since then it has won three Tours de France, three Gri d'Italia, one Vuelta, and San Remo, but it also became the best-selling product in the history of Castelli because, simply put, this is the short that does everything well. The concept is quite simple: start with the best pad we know how to make, surround it with a supportive short with good muscle compression, and then remove everything else that's not absolutely necessary. You feel free thanks to the reduced number of panels and the reduced number of seams. In fact, the short portion has just 5 panels compared to 10 in the previous generation. You feel free because of further refinements to the Progetto X2 air seamless seat pad. The two densities of foam plus the gel pads provide progressive damping, while the separate skincare layer is soft and stretchy to move with your skin. This jacket is a game changer. To call it a rain jacket is only touching the surface. While it's an outstanding rain jacket, we end up using it 95% of the time in dry conditions because it's so compact that we always have it in our center pocket, ready to put on for a long, cold descent, or to cover up at a coffee stop, or to keep some heat in while waiting for the other guys to show up for the ride. We named this jacket Idro 3, which at first doesn't say much, but let's break it down. Idro is Italian for "hydro," meaning having to do with water. Or in this case, keeping water from coming in while letting sweat escape. It does both very, very well. Best we've ever made. The 3 in the name indicates this is the third iteration of this product, and we're nearing the maximum of what's possible with a shell jacket. There's a big innovation on the back, with a large high-stretch GORE-TEX panel that allows us to give the jacket a trim fit (i.e., no flapping fabric, so you can just ride away from your riding companions), yet the jacket expands to fit around loaded pockets — or to fit normal people with a bit of a gut. Beyond the stretch panel, we've carefully refined the fit, the finishing construction, the large reflective panels, and especially the wrist closures with a new internal gaiter. We've made this jacket to be as fully featured as possible when you wear it, but it will spend a lot of time in a pocket on those days when it might rain or when you just need it to cover up on long alpine descents. It weighs less than many jerseys and stashes away to occupy only half a jersey pocket. There is one drawback: the fabric is so lightweight that it is a little bit fragile, so treat it with care. This jersey is made for those JRA rides. Just riding along. You're not aiming for new Strava records or to win the city-limit sprints, but you do want a jersey that's comfortable and looks great. Most of us use long-sleeve jerseys for a few days in the spring and fall, then extend their range with a vest in cooler weather, and then pull them back out for insulation duty under a jacket in extreme cold. So a thermal jersey shouldn't be too bulky or complicated, yet you don't want boring. The creation of this product started with a list of the things we wanted to fix about winter gloves: we wanted to make a glove that's warm without being bulky, is easy to get on and off, is mostly waterproof without having it suck in dry weather due to low breathability, and is super comfortable. We innovated everything on this glove, starting with the base fabrics: we've used a stretch water-resistant windproof outer shell over PrimaLoft Gold insulation to make it warm, and an insanely soft inner liner that happens to slide easily over even a sweaty hand for easy on/off. That jacket used to be a simple affair — a nylon shell — but the lack of stretch meant that it had to be cut on the generous side to fit all body shapes, both on and off the bike. We've completely reimagined what the shell jacket should be and how it's constructed. We've added panels on the sides and the sleeves in a very high-stretch yet tightly knit fabric that allows us to give the jacket a modern, close-to-body fit for aero gains on any terrain, and it actually keeps more heat in than a jacket that's flapping about. We've kept it very compact so that it can pack away into minimal space in a jersey pocket. A new coated ripstop fabric keeps the wind off the front and spray off the back, while the tightly knit side panels allow the vest to stretch to fit a wide range of shapes while keeping a close-to-body fit that eliminates fabric flapping in the wind. Don't Limit Yourself We made this short to meet Castelli's high standards for comfort and performance in a cycling short while adding a few extra features that come in handy for riding on any surface. You'll find our normal exceptional fit as well as the KISS Air2 seat pad, which provides generous anatomically placed padding with an exceptionally soft top layer. What makes this short special is the extremely durable Unlimited Lycra fabric. It has higher abrasion resistance and tear resistance while not compromising on stretch, moisture management or comfort. In addition, we use double-layer side panels for the old track rider's trick of fabric-sliding-on-fabric should you fall. This short isn't really meant to be indestructible, but it significantly increases the chances that sliding out on gravel will mean you need to just brush yourself off rather than having to buy a new pair of shorts. That second layer on the side panel also makes for convenient side pockets, with a flap over the top to prevent the contents from falling out. For added convenience while riding on and off road, you have two mesh pockets on the lower back that compress gear next to your body to keep it from bouncing around. The ideal tight for most of your winter riding, the Velocissimo is focused on comfort for riding in mild to cool conditions. We've used our Thermoflex fabric for most of the tight. It's not our warmest fabric, nor does it repel water like Nano Flex, but it is the softest, stretchiest winter tight fabric. The comfort is immediate and lasting. For the lower leg from just below the knee, we switch to our Nano Flex fleeced stretch-woven fabric that's both warm and highly water repellent for protection against spray coming off wet roads. It's also highly stretchy, and we leave a raw edge so we can construct the ankles without zippers while making sure the tight remains easy to put on and take off.
